The Diocese of Kalamazoo expresses its gratitude to Sister Maryud Cortes, Religious Sister of the Missionary Sisters Servants of the Divine Spirit (MSDE) for all her commitment and support during these last two and a half years she was in the Diocesan Secretariat for Parish Life and Lay Leadership. She was part of the Diocesan Team Sister Maryud will be working at the national level for Catholic Extension, an organization that supports mission dioceses in the United States, which has been the leader of the Latin American Religious Sister Exchange Program. Thanks to this program, the Diocese was able to bring the Sisters from Colombia in 2014 and now, the Sisters from Nicaragua, the Missionary Sisters of the Divine Face, who reside and minister in Sturgis.
Sister Maryud has a rich experience with this program and will be a great support to all the sisters participating in it at the national level. She continues to live in the diocese, and from here, she will support all the sisters in the program at the national level with personal counseling and directing workshops at the national level. We wish her all the best in this new mission.of the Office of Hispanic Ministry.
Sister Maria Eugenia Gomez, MSDE, has been appointed to fill the position of Sister Maryud at the diocesan level. Sister Maria Eugenia is currently supporting St. Basil Parish in South Haven. She will start working with the Diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry in July. Sister Maria Eugenia also brings a very rich experience to the diocesan Hispanic Ministry with her extensive pastoral experience in other Latin American countries. In her first year in the diocese, Sister Maria Eugenia will be visiting all the parishes that of-fer pastoral care in Spanish to better understand the needs and be able to provide support for the parishes.
