The Presence: Weekend retreat for high schoolers heads to Sherman Lake
Now in its seventh year, The Presence, a eucharistic- centered retreat for high schoolers, will offer its Spirit-filled weekend experience at Sherman Lake YMCA, Augusta, Mich., Feb. 22- 24, 2019.
Sister Helena Burns will be the featured speaker. Sister Helena, a movie reviewer for Life Teen & The Catholic Channel on Sirius XM, studied screenwriting at UCLA and also has an MA in media literacy education; a BA in theology and philosophy from St. John’s University in New York City. Additional talks will be presented by Tommy Schultz, a full-time speaker who focuses on topics such as the sacraments, chastity and boldly living the Catholic faith. Full Armor will be the featured musical guest.
The format of the retreat — which includes the Mass, the sacrament of reconciliation, adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, prayer, talks, music and fellowship — is designed to provide a means to help young people develop a deep and lasting personal relationship with Jesus Christ, especially in the Eucharist, “the source and summit of Christian life” (
Lumen Gentium, 11).
Mass is celebrated, during which time the Blessed Sacrament is reposed. The sacrament of reconciliation is another vital part of The Presence weekend. The priests discuss the sacrament in an effort to give young people a deeper understanding of the importance and the need for reconciliation with God. The sacrament is available throughout the weekend.
